2000 Clos de Gamot, AOC Cahors 'Vignes Centenaires' Malbec

Appellation: AOC Cahors (South-West France region)

Grape: Malbec (100%)

Farming: Organic (not certified)

Aromatics: Prunes, black berries, elegant earthiness and leather notes. This opens up in the glass after just a few minutes.

Palate: An outstanding wine from a great vintage. Concentrated, with ripe black berries, plum, cooked fruits and blackcurrants. The texture is smooth and the tannins ripe. The wine persists on the palate, and you wonder when the finish ends. A special wine.

About the wine: This cuvee is made from vines over 100 years old. The philosophy of the Jouffreau family is simple: be good farmers, give things time and observe nature. This approach has seen this low yielding vines ageing back to 1885 still producing intense, great fruit. Old vintages from Gamot are bucket list wines. Older vintages such as 1978, 1988, 1990 are outstanding. The ability of Clos de Gamot wines to age and transform over time is exceptional. We are proud to import this 'sleeping beauty' and share them with you.

When to drink: Now and for the next 30 years after vintage.

Service: 15-16 degrees C. No decanting when the wine is old.

Food match: Black truffle or mushroom dishes, slow cooked game, quail.
