The Wine Advocate, Robert Parker: Vintage 2008, 93/100
Vinous: Vintage 2008, 93/100
Jancis Robinson: 17.5/100
Category: Red, full-bodied.
Appellation: AOC Pomerol (Bordeaux, right bank)
Grapes: Merlot (65%), Cabernet Franc (25%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%)
About the wine: To drink what is simply the best?! The terroir that gives VCC wines is nothing less than the neighbor of Petrus and Lafleur all 3 located in the best Pomerol's area, a truly magical place! Simply a bucket list wine from the Thienpont family.
Taste like: Jancis Robinson, says “Bright crimson. Fresh, meaty, savoury nose. Much less obviously sweet than Le Pin from the same family – though there is a certain freshness and bloodiness. Reminds me a little of Haut-Brion in its fresh frank expression. Very firm. Very precise – no flatterer. Quite cool. Good attack.”
When to drink: Drink now or in the next 15 to 25 years after vintage.
Service: 15-16 degrees C. Decant 1 hour.
Food match: Best paired with grilled chops, veal, pork or lamb, especially with herbs such as thyme, rosemary, and oregano. Great with a steak, especially in a red wine sauce, a beef Wellington, roast rack or leg of lamb, served pink or even with a roast chicken, turkey, and guineafowl.
