  • Domaine Raphael Chopin | Beaujolais | Mosaique Wines

Domaine Raphael Chopin Beaujolais Organic, in-conversion Beaujolais represents 18,000 hectares of vines, with this Beaujolais producer only farming 5 of them. Raphael Chopin, as humble as he is, shares an artistic talent just like his namesake. It was perhaps meant to be that he became a winemaker, auspiciously born on November 21st - the celebration of Beaujolais Nouveau. Add to this, winemaking was already in his blood, having a winemaker grandfather. With the encouragement of his mother and grandmother, Raphael proudly and painstakingly revived his grandfather's vineyard, restoring it to something rather special. After studying in France, Raphael dreamed of California, but vintage was at the same time as in Beaujolais, so Australia came naturally as the place to go for a vintage stint. He then returned to Beaujolais, bringing grandfather's estate back to life with the beautiful 2009 vintage. Chopin's original vineyard in Lantignié is a beautiful mix of 28 year old young vines, planted in 1989, as well as some rare older 110 year old vines planted in 1905, with 100% Gamay as the only red grape allowed in Beaujolais. It is from this La Savoye vineyard that the Beaujolais-Villages is made from. This pocket size vineyard produces just 11,000 bottles, with Lantigné’s vintners working on a project with the AOC board to become the 11th Beaujolais, Cru and the first Beaujolais Cru to be 100% certified. Extending the family holdings, Chopin now also own small holdings in Morgon and Régnié, creating wines to express these diverse terroirs. Raphael farm the vineyard organically, working towards certification. This means no use of chemicals, instead he uses essential oils, copper and limited levels of sulphur. He is tilling the soil, hand harvesting and sorting, essentially managing his small vineyard like he would a precious garden. The result is simply delicious, with purity of fruit as the trademark. • Chateau Tire Pe | Bordeaux | Mosaique Wines

CHATEAU TIRE PE Bordeaux Organic certified Chateau Tire Pe is owned by David and Hélène Barrault, they took over this small vineyard in 1997. Blessed with rich clay and limestone soils, this vineyard possesses fantastic southern exposure and overlooks the Garonne River. The Chateau takes its name from a colourful local tale about what small animals “leave behind” before climbing the Tire Pé hill. We’ll leave that to your imagination. The vineyard is composed of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, along with some rare local grapes called Castets, Mancin des Palus and vines of Pineau d’Aunis originating from the Loire. The Barrault’s farm vines of 10-35 years old organically, a practice they started to implement in 2008, becoming officially Ecocert certified since the 2014 vintage. They also practice some biodynamic principles, as well as ploughing the vines with horses. The latter fits in perfectly with equestrian centre which Hélène is running at the farm, ensuring animals, like vines, are a big part of Tire Pe. All grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed, with each plot harvested and fermented separately with natural yeast. Great care is taken to gently extract the supple fruit and terroir, that Bordeaux is so well known for, into each cuvee they produce. David and Helene’s wines are bottled without systematic filtration and only small amounts or no sulphur is added depending the vintage and the cuvee. Their naturally-made wines are vibrant, authentic and full of fruit. We personally love their texture and generosity of flavour. We are very excited to import these wines and we hope Australia will rediscover the beauty of Bordeaux with wines like Tire Pe! www. tirepe.blogspot.com Shop wines Quick View 2019 Chateau Tire Pe, Vin de France 'L'Echappée' Price $63.00 GST Included Quick View 2019-20 Chateau Tire Pe, Vin de France 'La Nomade' Pineau d'Aunis' Price $56.00 GST Included Quick View 2020 Chateau Tire Pe, AOC Bordeaux 'Tire Vin Vite' Price $45.00 GST Included Quick View 2022 Chateau Tire Pe, AOC Bordeaux 'Diem' Out of stock Load More

  • Bourgoin Cognac | Mosaique Wines

BOURGOIN COGNAC Cognac Organic conversion Cognac Bourgoin is a family estate located in the village of Saint Saturnin, in Charente. It has existed since 1933, when Leon Marcel Bourgoin traveled to the area for vintage and fell in love with his boss’s daughter. He then decided to put down roots in the area, literally, planting vines of Ugni Blanc that had arrived in France via Italy (there called Trebbiano) after phylloxera had decimated much of the local rootstock. Fast forward a few generations to the present and you’ll find Frederic, Leon Marcel’s grandson, humbly and proudly continuing the family’s Cognac production. This generation, however, has decided to shake things up. After selling to larger Cognac brands for years, the family bravely chose to create their own house style, one that focused on putting nature and mankind back at the heart of the Cognac making process. The result has been a resounding success, selling to scores of Michelin star restaurants and even the prestigious Elysée Palace. The Bourgoin Cognac journey is one which starts and finishes on the clay, limestone and alluvial soils of the estate. The grapes are grown organically, harvested, vinified with indigenous yeasts, distilled and bottled entirely by hand, all on site, allowing the family to closely monitor the tiny 20,000 bottles they make per year. Production is done entirely without the use of sulphur, colouring or added sugar at any stage. Furthermore, these Cognacs are produced without blending or filtration. The precision of this approach is purely expressed in the single vintage and terroir cuvees, with the additional option of cask cuvees. We are so excited to be able to bring a small amount of this incredible Cognac to Australia, sharing the heart of Cognac with these vibrant, artisanal expressions. • Clotilde Davenne | Chablis | Mosaique Wines

clotilde davenne Chablis, Burgundy Organic non-certified Meeting Clotilde Davenne and trying all her wines from the Petit Chablis to her best Grand Cru vineyards made things very clear: she knows what she is doing. Clotilde was not from a wine family; her father was a humble farmer near the Morvan mountains. She learned how to make wine at school in 1986 and later travelled to California for vintage. In 1989, Davenne's journey in Chablis started, working for one of the region's star producers: Jean-Marc Brocard. During a incredible 17 years with mentor Brocard, she gained an intimate knowledge of unique terroir and understanding of vintage styles. Then in 2005, Davenne set off on her own path, starting with the 1.9-hectare plot of Petit Chablis called “Les Temps Perdu” (which mean the lost time). Despite locals telling her that this land was a waste of time, Davenne knew this vineyard had potential. The vines were lying on Kimmeridgian soils just like AOC Chablis terroir, only called “Petit” because of its exposition to the North. With growing self confidence, she started putting together a patchwork of vineyard expressing different grapes and terroirs, one plot of land at a time. It now includes a mosaic of beautiful vineyards: Bourgogne AOC, Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (Vaucoupin, Montmains, Fourchaume, Vaillons) and Chablis Grand Cru (Bougros, Les Clos, Blanchots), as well as 100 year old Sauvignon Blanc from Saint-Bris and Pinot Noir from Irancy. Her gamble paid off, becoming one of Chablis rising stars thanks to her hard work and the purity of her wines. Clotilde was hugely honoured to be included in Jancis Robinson and Hugh Johnson 's "The World Atlas of Wine" for one of her best vineyards: Montmains 1er Cru Chablis. Now Davenne's 40 year old Chablis vines are located in the village of Courgis, south of Chablis. The vineyard is sheltered from winds, on a steep slope of Kimmeridgian with soil, peppered with fossilised oysters from when the sea covered the Paris basin150 million years ago. Clotilde farms her vineyard naturally, without the use of chemicals, with almost all of her production is harvested by hand. You won't find any oak barrel in her cellars however, as Clotilde is a big believer of stainless steel vinification for her Chablis, focusing on purity and terroir expression. All Davenne's wines undergo malolactic fermentation for complexity, with use of the lunar calendar for racking and bottling, then light filtration. • Domaine Cruchandeau | Burgundy | Mosaique Wines

Domaine Cruchandeau Burgundy Organic It is not everyday one must choose between the life in the vines and that of a touring electronic music artist, however this is the story of Julien Cruchandeau. Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, where the terroir whispers stories of tradition and excellence, Domaine Cruchandeau emerges as a testament to the marriage of passion and craftsmanship. Born in Chenôve in 1978, Julien's journey into winemaking unfolded organically, leading him to become one of Burgundy's most talented winemakers of his generation. Despite lacking a winemaking lineage, Julien's early fascination with taste, aromas, and flavours led him to pursue a culinary path. Graduating with a specialisation in hospitality in 1997, he embarked on a journey through high-end establishments in France and England, including a stint as a waiter in a prestigious London brasserie. It was here that he delved into the intricate world of global cuisines and wines. Returning to Burgundy in 2000, Julien pursued a two-year course in oenology and viticulture while gaining practical experience at Domaine Seguin in Gevrey-Chambertin. By 2001, at the young age of 23, he assumed the role of estate manager and winemaker at Domaine France Lechenault in Bouzeron. Overseeing the entire winemaking process, Julien's efforts caught the attention of wine critics, with his name featured in the Guide Hachette in 2002, along with winning a gold award at the Concours des vins de la Côte Chalonnaise in 2005. In 2003, Julien established Domaine Cruchandeau, procuring his initial vines in the lesser-known Bouzeron appellation and invested in all the essential winemaking equipment. Having already conquered one underdog, and seeking to expand his land under vine, he moved to the Hautes Cotes de Nuits in 2007, settling in the village of Chaux. Perhaps controversial at the time, the move turned out to be a stroke of genius given growing conditions are increasingly favourable toward the higher slopes of Burgundy. Throughout this time, Julien's artistic journey extended beyond winemaking; he co-founded the Shrink Orchestra, showcasing his talents as an electronic music artist. This adventure, spanning from 2004 to 2010, included around 200 concerts across Europe and the creation of his record label, Guls Records. However, in 2010, Julien chose the secateurs over the drumsticks, devoting his career to winemaking. Julien's winemaking philosophy centres on showcasing the potential of lesser-known appellations. He champions the under-appreciated, crafting wines that reflect the unique terroirs of 9 appellations including Nuits Saint Georges ‘Aux St Jacques’, Bouzeron, Hautes Cotes de Nuits, Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru ‘Hameau de Blagny’, Savigny les Beaune, Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru 'Le Bas des Duresses' and Ladoix. These vines equate to a small domaine covering approximately 4.5 hectares, with Julien's artisanal approach and meticulous attention to detail shining through. His commitment to organic farming is the centrepiece of his approach, eschewing chemical fertilisers since 2011. Harvesting is carried out later in the season, and by hand to ensure only the finest grapes reach the winery. The wines are made as naturally as possible with indigenous yeasts fermentation, following traditional methods while applying a few modern winemaking techniques, including temperature control. Maturation is undergone for 8 to 18 months, depending on the vintage, in vats or old French oak barrels with some lees aging for whites and not too much batonnage. Reds are vinified with light infusion including foot crushing for 3 to 6 weeks and some 50% whole bunches to no whole bunches depending on the cuvee and the vintage. The wines are bottled after a light filtration, except for the Nuits-Saint-Georges, which remains unfiltered. A standout feature of Julien's winemaking journey is his dedication to the often-overlooked grape variety, Aligoté. His Bouzeron 'Massale' and Hautes Cotes de Nuits Aligote wines exemplify the potential of this grape, with the former gifted by the godfather of Burgundy himself, Aubert De Villaine in a joint effort to shine a light on Bouzeron. Today with the collective ‘Les Aligoteurs’ lead by famous vignerons such as Sylvain Pataille, Julien Cruchandeau and his friends are making Aligoté shine. Julien's wines, characterised by their aromatic, depth, purity, and pretty qualities, have positioned him as one of the region’s most exceptional winemakers. His ability to unlock the potential of lesser-known appellations highlights both his skill and unwavering commitment to Burgundy's rich winemaking heritage. For lovers of Burgundy, and the underdog, these are wines truly worth seeking out. • Domaine Adrien Berlioz | Savoie | Mosaique Wines

Domaine ADRIEN BERLIOZ Savoie, Chignin Organic, biodynamic certified REVUE DES VINS DE FRANCE: 2** STARS “The domaine confirms year after year its rank as the elite of the region, a reference point both for the wine lovers and young winemakers that are starting in the Alpine vineyards, with always higher ambitions." Located at the foothills of the Bauges massif, and bordering neighbouring Switzerland and Valle d’Aosta in Italy, the organically farmed vineyards of Domaine Adrien Berlioz in the Savoie region are as picturesque as you might imagine. Berlioz took over the family vineyards in 2006, two hectares located near a small village called Chignin at 390m above sea level. With plenty of hard work alongside the pursuit of purity and a certified biodynamic approach to farming, he has grown the vineyard to 5 hectares, transforming it into one of the region’s most prestigious domaines. The hard work starts with the incredibly steep slopes the vines are planted on – some of which boast an inclination of 50%, on soils comprised of rock scree and calcareous clay. Planted here are a mixture of the region’s best known varieties including Jacquere, Altesse, Malvoisie, Bergeron (Roussanne) Mondeuse, Douce Noire and Persan, all farmed without the use of herbicides or non-organic fertilizers and all by hand (with a little help from the horses). Who’d want to manage a tractor on those slopes?! In the winery, the dedication to purity continues, making the wines with minimal intervention, natural winemaking techniques including very little sulphur. The results are evident in the incredibly mineral driven, intense and pure wines, sure to leave a lasting impression of just how good Savoie wines can be. • Marie & Sylvie Courselle | Vin de France Bordeaux | Mosaique Wines

CHATEAU THIEULEY M. & s. Courselle Vin de France, Bordeaux Sustainable certified Marie and Sylvie Courselle are two sisters most certainly doing it for themselves, not afraid to break from tradition in order to create truly tasty wines. A short 25 km from Bordeaux, the Courselle vineyard is located at Chateau Thieuley, the historic family property on the clay and limestone hills of Entre-dux-Mers. From growing up in the region, and studying their craft, to travelling widely abroad, the Courselle sisters came to have a deep understanding of the complexities of the family vineyard, and also its potential. They wanted to make wines to reflect their values, while show their great pride in their family history at Chateau Thieuley and pay tribute to the knowledge they learned from their parents. Although many people in Bordeaux though they were rebels, the young Courselle sisters convinced their father to plant Syrah vines to blend with the traditional Cabernet Franc, Merlot. And while they were at it, Chardonnay to blend with the local Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. A risk that has paid off handsomely. Marie and Sylvie have also worked hard to obtain their sustainable certification from Terra Vitis, working to ensure vineyard health and vitality that shines through in the end result. These two wines "Les copains" (the boy mates) and "Les copines" (the girl mates) reflect who they are - these are happy and festive wines to be shared! As the Courselle sisters always say "don’t forget, empty glasses remain full of memories!". We couldn't agree more. The white is crisp, fresh and balanced with a lovely juicy texture. White flowers aromas. Notes of ripe peach, mango and passion fruits. The red is light bodied, bright and filled with red fruits. Very friendly strawberries aromas with a spicy finish. It's a smashable red that can be served chilled on a hot day. Courselle sustainable high-density vineyard is averaging 5,500 vines per hectare which is almost double the region‘s average. Sustainable certified (Terra Vitis), grass grows between rows to create moderate water stress. Canopy management, leaf plucking, and green harvest are essential for better sun exposure of the grapes. Grapes are machine harvested in the morning. Whites are vinified with cold maceration on the skin, pneumatic pressing under inert gas, cool temperature fermentation and then ageing on lees in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Reds go through cold pre-ferment maceration, cool fermentation, then short ageing in stainless steel tanks. Quiet a modern winemaking style, but gosh how good is the result?! These two wines bring some fresh thinking to the region, and they are probably showing one of the best the value for quality in Bordeaux. “Le Petit Courselle red: Winemaking sisters from Bordeaux breaking all the rules. They planted syrah, now they blend those grapes where the Bordelais say they shouldn’t be blended. They eschew excess oak and overt winemaking intervention. Even the label is of another oeuvre. They are rebels, I tell ya. Here’s a blend of cabernet franc, merlot and syrah. Better believe it. Light on the fizz so you can slam it down fast. What a breath of fresh Entre-Deux-Mers air. - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front. "Le Petit Courselle white: Here, chardonnay joins sauvignon blanc and Semillon with skin contact during cold fermentation. Plenty of interest and joyous drinking to be had here and outstanding value.” - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front. • Domaine Rohrer | Alsace | Mosaique Wines

Domaine ROHRER Alsace Organic and Biodynamic certified Alsace is a region that is still largely misunderstood by wine lovers and professionals alike. It can be regarded as being as complex as Burgundy, with the mosaique of different terroirs resulting in Cru expression that is just fantastic. Protected on the West by the Vosges mountains, the vineyards run along 170 km, known as the famous ‘Route des Vins d’Alsace’. This region borders with Germany, and grows many of the same grape varietals although the Alsatian expressions are generally drier. Domaine André Rohrer is based in Mittelbergheim, in the northern part of Alsace region and is run by young and talented Ludovic Rohrer. The Rohrer family have been making wine in the region for eight generations. Today they farm organically and biodynamically across eight hectares of vines including 0.18 hectares in the Grand Cru Zotzenberg. The vineyards are spread across three villages: Eichoffen, Mittelbergheim and Barr. Each village produces different varietals and expressions of terroir. Eichoffen produces Riesling and Gewurztraminer on silty sand over marl, Mittelbergheim south of the village with the lieu dit ‘Stein’ is known for powerful Riesling on grey marls and limestone, Mittelbergheim west of the village with the lieu dit ‘Le Forst’ produces Pinot Noir on sandstone and Mittelbergheim east of the village with the lieu dit ‘l’Oberscheuer’ brings Pinot Gris on deep soils made of marls and sandstone. The Rohrer family became early adopters of sustainable and organic farming methods. In the 1960s Ludovic’s grandfather had already stopped the use of herbicide and encouraged herbs to grow between the vines. In the 1980s they ceased the use of all chemical pesticides and finally in 2001, André started the conversion of the Domaine towards organic certification. Today they are certified both organic and biodynamic. This conversion in the vineyard over the past decades has allowed them to improve the purity of their wines, with the full expression of their terroirs. Perfect expertise of vinification and natural winemaking, these wines are as pure as they come. Organic and biodynamic farming in the vineyard along with hand harvesting is followed in the cellar by traditional ageing in old Alsacian oak foudres. Most of the wines have no filtration and no sulphur added, only the wines with residual sugar are lightly filtered and lightly sulphured so they remain stable. It is also common that the family will hold wines longer in the cellar when a vintage or a cuvee needs it, for example the 2019 will only be released for 2021 Spring. • Cros des Calades | Ardeche & Rhone | Mosaique Wines

CROS DES CALADES Ardeche & Rhone Organic non-certified Nestled in the picturesque village of Grospierres, Cros des Calades is the innovative project of Florence and Benoît Chazallon, renowned for their work at Château de la Selve. Grounded in organic practices, Cros des Calades champions the essence of Ardeche and southern Rhône’s unique terroirs by sourcing grapes from five neighbouring organic vineyards, each adding distinctive character to their wines. The Chazallons follow the same philosophy here as at Château de la Selve, emphasising minimal intervention in the cellar to produce wines that are pure, vibrant, and true to the land. The vineyard’s diverse terroirs—from the cooler, clay-limestone soils, near the Cévennes to the warm Mediterranean climate—create ideal conditions for expressive, easy-drinking wines across various styles. The name "Cros des Calades" reflects a deep sense of place, derived from the Ardèche dialect meaning "pathway in the gorge"—a tribute to the region’s striking, mountainous landscape where these vines flourish. The Cros des Calades Ballon range includes a white, rosé, and red wine. Each wine is crafted with natural fermentation, showcasing the distinct character of its varietals: the red blends Grenache and Syrah; the white combines Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay, and Rolle (also known as Vermentino); and the rosé is a vibrant mix of Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault. In our time searching France for wines we love, it is rare to find wines that sit at such an affordable price point, which are truly a delight to drink and reflect our commitment to organic and sustainable wine production. We hope you enjoy discovering them!
