  • Domaine de l'Alliance | Sauternes | Mosaique Wines

Domaine de l’Alliance is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship. The cooler terroir of Barsac ensures a freshness and energy that set these wines apart, making them a favorite among France’s finest Michelin-starred restaurants and the press. La Revue des Vins de France hails Daniel as “a rising figure in the Sauternes vineyards,” praising his wines for their “balance, energy, and quality on par with many classified growth Châteaux.” DOMAINE DE L'ALLIANCE Sauternes Organic certified The journey from Atlantic fisherman to deeply respected Sauternes producer is not a common one, however for one half of Domaine de l’Alliance, it was one fueled by love (we know, so French). Nestled in the prestigious Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux, Domaine de l’Alliance is the passion project of Valérie and Daniel Alibrand. Their journey into winemaking began long before they established the estate, first meeting while studying at Château La Tour Blanche, a Premier Grand Cru Classé de Sauternes 1855 and renowned School of Viticulture and Oenology. Unlike the grand châteaux that dominate the Sauternes region, the Alibrands have charted their own path, crafting extraordinary wines with precision, dedication, and a deep respect for nature. The pair took over vineyards from Valerie’s family in their hometown in 2005, bringing their shared expertise and passion to every bottle. From the outset, Domaine de l’Alliance has been committed to organic farming, solidifying this with organic certification in 2015. Their holistic approach extends beyond the vineyard, with minimal intervention in the cellar and a deep respect for the land they cultivate. To promote biodiversity and soil health, the Alibrands employ Solognot sheep, which naturally graze between the vines, managing cover crops without the need for machinery or herbicides. Their seven-hectare vineyard, situated in Fargues between the esteemed Château Rieussec and Château de Fargues, benefits from Fargues’s unique and cooler microclimate. The confluence of the Garonne river and Ruisseau de Fragues stream creates the perfect conditions for noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), essential for producing the region’s world-renowned sweet wines. With old vines of 80% Sémillon, 18% Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, and 2% Muscadelle, planted on gravels, sand, clay and limestone, their low yields (10-13 hl/ha, comparable to Yquem) result in wines of remarkable intensity and complexity. Domaine de l’Alliance is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship. Harvesting is done entirely by hand in up to seven vineyard passes to select only the finest botrytised grapes. In the winery, they prefer to be as hands off as possible, letting the grapes and the terroir reveal themselves in the final wine. Grapes undergo rigorous sorting and slow pneumatic pressing (4-5 hours), followed by fermentation with natural yeasts in carefully chosen barrels. The cooler terroir of Barsac ensures a freshness and energy that set these wines apart, making them a favorite among France’s finest Michelin-starred restaurants, including Anne-Sophie Pic, Troisgros, Gagnaire, and Bras. La Revue des Vins de France hails Daniel as “a rising figure in the Sauternes vineyards,” praising his wines for their “balance, energy, and quality on par with many classified growth Châteaux.” The wines have also captured the attention of Decanter and Vinous along the way. This recognition underscores the Alibrands’ ability to push beyond tradition, crafting exceptional wines that capture the essence of Sauternes’s terroir. While best known for their beautifully balanced Sauternes, the Alibrands have also garnered acclaim for their Bordeaux Blanc (Which may become Sauternes Sec?), showcasing the untapped potential of the region. At Mosaique Wines, we believe in championing vignerons who create wines with soul, and from our very first conversation with Daniel, we knew Domaine de l’Alliance belonged in our portfolio. We invite you to discover these exceptional wines and experience the magic of Barsac in every sip. • Domaine de Brin | Gaillac | Mosaique Wines

Damien Bonnet took over the family Domaine in 2008, his understanding of this environment is evident as he can reel off the smallest details of the surrounding 10 hectares. He wasted no time gaining organic certification and experimenting with concrete and amphora to produce a natural style of wine, domaine de brin Gaillac, South-West France Organic certified The Gaillac region is undoubtedly one of France’s oldest, and fast becoming it’s most exciting. Leading the charge is Domaine de Brin, with a young gun winemaker and a revival of rare varieties. Damien Bonnet took over the family Domaine in 2008, his understanding of this environment is evident as he can reel off the smallest details of the surrounding 10 hectares. He wasted no time gaining organic certification and experimenting with concrete and amphora to produce a natural style of wine, taking biodynamic principals and lunar calendars into the process. These were significant changes for Damien and his parents, moving the farm from selling to the local coop and polyculture; to bottling and selling their own wines. South facing vines are finding their expression in calcareous and white clay soils. Sitting on the 285-metre plateau on the right bank of the Tarn river, Gaillac benefits of both Mediterranean and Atlantic unique influence. Vineyard wise, Damien is using natural weeding methods, working the soil between the vines. When needed, they use organic fertiliser including horse beans and oats to enrich the soils. His aim for the vines is to obtain an equilibrium allowing a low yield of 20-35 hl/ha with healthy and perfectly ripe grapes. Each grape variety is manually harvested at its optimum maturation. The grapes are turned into wine using natural yeasts. The maturing takes place at a slow pace according to the rhythm of the seasons, in concrete and large format old oak that is an essential part of his winemaking style, along with minimising the use of sulphites. Pierres Blanches This white blend aged in old barrel, displays apple and hazelnut aromas with oxidative sherry-like notes. La Vie en Rosé is a heady, aromatic showcase of strawberries, grapefruit, lychee, as well as blueberries with a lot of texture. Vendemia The medium bodied red Vendemia is ripe with crunchy tannins and notes of blackcurrants. Amphore This cuvee aged in amphora is very vibrant and bright with spicy red berries and pure velvety finish. The wines of Clos de Gamot are the humble benchmark of Malbec from this area, with the Jouffreau family passing winemaking traditions from father to son since 1610. There have been more than a few bumps along the way, yet the Jouffreau's had remained true to their vines, never abandoning their traditional grapes for trends and continuing to bottle wines when others in the region had defaulted. The philosophy of the Jouffreau family is simple: be good farmers. give things time, observe nature, be respectful. This approach has seen vines ageing back to 1885 still producing intense, great fruit. The vineyard is located on the second and third of the Lot river's terraces, composed of pebbles, gravel, and quartz mixed with alluvium of the Lot. With no use of herbicide, the workload on the vineyard is enormous. From a winemaking perspective, grapes are sorted when they join the cellar. Each plot is vinified separately, with gentle pumping over to keep a harmonious structure. Wine is aged for 18 to 24 months in old oak pungent with some 40 years old foudre (70hl and 100hl). Jean Jouffreau’s daughters and his son-in-law Yves Hermann have continued to lovingly care for the family vines, with Yves' son now joining the legacy. The tradition continues, with the focus on bottle maturation remaining. “A wine, like a person,” says Yves, “should have a personal story to tell over time.” With the range of vintages the estate offers, it is possible for consumers to affordably capture history in a glass. We’ll drink to that! Clos de Gamot is vibrant. Violet notes lead, with pure and fresh dark fruits, and approachable crunchy tannins. Skillful use of oak rounds out the package, with a long, persistent finish. Produced only for outstanding vintage, the Cuvee des Vignes Centenaires is made from +100 years old vines. After careful decanting, notes of plum abound, with generous concentrated ripe black fruits and subtle leather aromas. A wine to induce goosebumps on first sip. Old vintages from Gamot are bucket list wines. Older vintages such as 1978, 1988, 1990 are outstanding. The ability of Clos de Gamot wines to age and transform over time is exceptional. • Domaine Garon | Cote-Rotie | Mosaique Wines

Kevin and Fabien Garon farmed organically their vineyards and produce a range of spectacular Cotes du Rhone, IGP Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah, Cote Rotie, Saint Joseph as well as Condrieu and IGP Viognier. Domaine garon Cote-Rotie, Cotes du Rhone Organic non-certified We can all agree, Cote-Rotie in northern Rhone is one of, if not the spiritual home of Syrah. The Garon family certainly thinks so, having based themselves here, in Ampuis, since the 15th century. The family patriach Jean Garon was born here in 1475, battling hard times and growing grapes for a merchant (Guigal), along with farming fruit. Fast forward a few centuries to 1982, when Jean François and Carmen Garon replanted vines in the abandoned slopes of Cote-Rotie. "It wasn't bad for the vineyards to rest a hundred years between plantings" according to, Jean-Francois! In 2003, Jean-Francois' sons Kevin and Fabien joined the estate, taking the wines to yet another level. Kevin said “every year, the wine is different. A vintage is often full of memories, a bottle always captures a little bit of the story. In the Cote Rotie more than anywhere we can say that the wine is made in the vineyard, in the middle of the steep and dangerous terraces.” With about 8.3 hectares, the Garons farm the land organically and even use the horse. Weeding, like most of the vineyard work, is done by hand. This care taken in the vineyard is reflected in wines of great expression and personality. There is no over extraction, with gentle and long vinification bringing finesse. They are seeking a more Burgundian style of Côte-Rôtie. Cotes du Rhone “La Part des Vivants” A name which means the wine left for us to drink after the angel share. The grapes come from Ampuis area, declassified Cru Cairanne and also Rasteau fruits. Mostly de-stemmed, traditional vinification. 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 10% Carignan. Aged in very old barrels of 228 litres. Low sulphur. Black fruits, concentrated wild berries, spices, dark chocolate and a slight earthiness. Beautiful acidity and pure with a saline finish. “Les Grandes Parcelles” IGP Collines Rhodaniennes 100% Syrah, affectionately referred to as ababy Cote Rotie, sometimes including an amount of declassified fruit. Hand harvested, followed by traditional vinification. Elegant, intense with dark cherry, small berries, fine tannins, long balanced finish. La Sybarine A blend of 25 year old Syrah from plots on decomposed granite from the “Cote Rotie Blond area” (Lieu dit Goutay and Mollard). Handpicked, temperature controlled ferment ans roughly 80% destemmed. Daily punching down and pumping over during alcoholic fermentation, followed by 15 days maceration and 14 months in old French oak barrels. Aromas of blackberry and strawberry with violet, citrus notes as well as grilled bacon. Vibrant fruit on the palate, with rich and round with lush red fruits and blood orange notes lifted by good acidity. Approachable power, the finish is long with deep red fruit ending with a dark earthy minerality. Drink young and over the next ten years. The Garon also farm: Les Triotes (schist blond area), Les Rochins (Brune area next to La Landonne), Lancement and delicious white IGP Viognier and impressive Condrieu. "As I wrote last year, the running of Domaine Garon has passed largely to sons Kévin and Fabien Garon, who came on board at the domaine starting in 2003. While quality was reliable in the 2000s, since 2010, everything appears to have been on a steady upward trajectory, with the 2015 being the finest wines I've tasted from the estate, and magical wines produced in both 2017 and 2018. Lovers of pure, classical Côte Rôtie need to get on this estate's bandwagon ASAP!" - Jeb Dunnuck . • Pastis Garagai | Aix-en-Provence | Mosaique Wines

Pastis Garagai, is the work of young Maixent Dubois. Growing up among the family vineyard in Provence might have steered him towards the family business; however he has chosen to take the spirit of terroir and apply it to pastis. The story began with 300 bottles for the 2019 vintage, as a side hustle while Maixent was working part time at the vineyard. Today, the average yearly production is still tiny, with just 5,000 bottles per year, to ensure each vintage produced retains a focus on quality. Distillerie GARAGAÏ Aix-en-Provence Organic Sometimes we find a wine, and other times a wine finds us. Then there is the rare occasion when it’s not wine at all, rather a drink to remind us of hot summer afternoons, village parties and Le Tour. On a recent trip back to France, I took an afternoon out to travel to a nearby town to watch a stage of Le Tour de France pass by. It was the peak of the summer heat wave, and rather than stand in the sun waiting for cyclists, I nabbed a shady outdoor spot at the most local of bars where the pastis was cheaper than bottled water. By the end of that tall, refreshing glass it was clear our next producer would be the best expression of this rustic, aniseed-y spirit I could find. Pastis Garagai, meaning ‘gulf’ or ‘hole’ in local Provencal dialect, is the work of young Maixent Dubois. Pastis Garagai is distilled from a base of star anise and liquorice from Provence plus about twenty other botanicals and plants, many of which are foraged from the Sainte-Victoire mountain or grown organically on the vineyard. These include fennel flower, lemon basil, liquorice basil, Marseille basil, peppermint, tarragon, sage, absinthe, verbena, thyme, rosemary and lemon thyme. By sourcing locally, Maixent can limit the environmental impact of transportation, control picking so he takes only what is required and importantly provides the freshest possible ingredients for his pastis. The depth of flavour added by fresh botanicals means the amount of added sugar is three to four times lower than commercial brands. The distillery itself is based in Aix-En-Provence, and consists of three small alembic pot stills - one 400L, one 300L and one 100L. After the botanicals are harvested from April to October, they undergo a week-long maceration one by one with a neutral grape alcohol. The fresh plants haven’t been dried beforehand, so they keep their natural vibrancy and deepness of flavor. After this comes the crucial blending process, taking place in November, and finally bottling with light filtration and no sulfur added. The result is a truly refreshing, artisanal expression of a traditional southern France aperitif. We love Maixent’s approach to making pastis from a single origin, a little bit like a wine domaine producing grapes only from one location. To make a bold statement, we think it’s the best pastis out there. Don’t take our word for it though - pour yourself a dash, mix with chilled water and ice then dive in. • Thierry Navarre | Mosaique Wines

Thierry Navarre is a bit of an icon in his region of Languedoc. He is widely regarded as one of the most respected natural winemakers in the area, best known for continuing his family’s dedication to resurrecting lost and ancient grape varietals. DOMAINE Thierry Navarre Saint-Chinian, Languedoc Organic Two Star La Revue de Vin de France: “Amongst the elite of the area.” New York Times: "To Find the Best of Languedoc, Follow the Producer" 2019 Jancis Robinson: "Languedoc for terroir-driven bargains" 2004 The story of how Thierry Navarre came to be part of our Mosaique Wines offering is a long one, literally, but we’re so glad we persisted and can bring these wonderful wines to Australia. Thierry Navarre is a producer we have had in our mind for some years. We would check in every year to see if we might get a response but given he spends so much time in the vineyard, and not so much time in front of the phone or computer, it proved a difficult task. Finally, we saw a chance in March 2023 - Thierry would be at the La Dive a Bouteille Wine Fair, and so would Thomas on a flying trip to France. The trip was almost accounted for by the minute, and as the morning of the wine fair ticked by, Thierry was nowhere to be seen and Thomas needed to leave to go to another wine fair. Of course, just as Thomas was leaving, Thierry arrives already in deep conversation with someone else. Long story short, Thomas decides to be late (not a big drama for the French), and stay until he can finally meet Thierry - an encounter years in the making and instantly worth the wait. Thierry Navarre is a bit of an icon in his region of Languedoc. He is widely regarded as one of the most respected natural winemakers in the area, and his wines are celebrated for their depth, complexity, and terroir-driven flavours. Without question, Navarre is best known for continuing his family’s dedication to promoting diversity of grape varietals in the region, resurrecting lost and ancient grape varietals - most of which are lower in alcohol. Taking over from over the domaine's vineyards in 1988, Navarre is a man who lives in his vines - a patch of 15ha based in and around the picturesque village of Roquebrun (which incidentally is set to become a grand cru of Saint-Chinian). His vineyards are farmed organically and filled with a role call of both popular and yet to be discovered varieties including Œillades, Ribeyrenc, Syrah, Cinsault, Grenache noir, Carignan, Romorantin, Clairette, Grenache gris, Marsanne, Terret and Muscat à petit grains blanc. These vines have a southwest exposure, and combined with soils composed of loose brown schist, generally produce lighter, mineral driven, delicate, more elegant styles compared to the wines from further south in Saint-Chinian. His lower alcohol (11%) and brighter ‘Le Vin d’Oeillades’ (Cinsault’s cousin) and ‘Le Ribeyrenc’ are French sommelier favourites and considered a ‘best kept secret’. The grapes are hand harvested, with some fully or partially destemmed. Following a natural fermentation in cement tanks, some of the cuvees are vinified traditionally, while others are vinified with carbonic maceration. Ageing occurs in a mix of tanks, old 228 litre and 500 litre barrels and foudre for 12 months. The resulting wines are unfined, yet they are filtered and have low sulphur. Navarre’s intuition for winemaking and passion for history translate into wines sought out by true wine lovers, a discovery not to be missed that we couldn’t be more excited to share! Domaine Nudant Ladoix-Serigny, Burgundy Sustainable Established in the 15th century, Domaine Nudant is located in Ladoix-Serigny. Fast forward to 2003, when Guillaume Nudant spearheaded a new generation making his debut for the Domaine. Today he has 16 hectares of vines in his care, spreading across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits including prestigious terroir such as Grand Crus Corton-Charlemagne, Corton-Bressandes, Echezeaux, along with several Premiers Cru on the hill of Corton; Aloxe Corton “Les Valozières”, “La Coutière” or the monopole “Clos de la Boulotte”. In Ladoix near the cellar, they produce Ladoix village, Ladoix 1er cru “Les Gréchons”, “Les Buis”, “La Corvée”. Finally they also farm vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne Romanée, Volnay 1er cru “Les Santenots”, Puligny-Montrachet with the 1er cru “Les Folatières”, as well as a beautiful Meursault village. Phew! Young Guillaume has carved out his niche, following winemaking and viticultural practices to shine a light on the incredible terroir he is now the custodian of. This includes grating selection, yield control, regular ploughing of the vines, organic composting, copper treatments and sustainable farming without the use of herbicides. Discovering these wines is indeed a journey through Burgundy. They are impressive, honest expressions of place that continue to evolve in the bottle, whilst being approachable and moreish on release. Ladoix 1er Cru “Les Buis” Delicious Ladoix, bright with high precision and vibrancy. Made from a small 0.98 hectare, with 40 year old vineyard. This wine has a delicate nose with aromas of red fruits such as blackcurrants and cherries. Elegant aromatics, with a hint of earthiness. Limited production of approx. 5 500 bottles every year. With careful cellaring, enjoy up to 10 years old. Vosne Romanee From 0.94 hectares, located in the small village of Vosne-Romanée, with old vines that are more than 50 years. Made of low yield (37 hectoliters), this Pinot expresses itself beautifully with an intense colour and a nose made up of dark berries such as blackberries and blueberries. Powerful and still full of finesse, you will also get a touch of spice thanks to 20% new oak on the finish. Decant for an hour in its youth before enjoying, alternatively it will develop for 15 years. Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots (vine leased) Les Santenots vineyard is located in the southern part of Volnay, near the village of Meursault. The particular structure of the soil (limestone, gravel and marl) makes Les Santenots a very aromatic wine, full of blackberries, raspberries and subtle notes of oak. It’s an elegant wine, delicately complex and concentrated at the same time. Meursault (vine leased) Citrusy, with subtle notes of spice and vanilla. On the palate, it shows a deep sense of place through purity, minerality and a finer texture if compared to most super creamy Meursault. Impressive length and finish. Domaine Labranche Laffont is living proof that a tannic beast can be tamed by a woman’s touch. Domaine Labranche Laffont Madiran & Pacherenc du Vic Bilh, South-West France Organic certified Domaine Labranche Laffont is living proof that a tannic beast can be tamed by a woman’s touch. The wines of Madiran are often thought of as robust, with the Tannat grape throwing its significant weight around the palate. Enter Christine Dupuy, a game changer in the region, with a mission to fight the Tannat stereotype. Dupuy took over Domaine Labranche Laffont in 1993, becoming the youngest female winemaker in the region. The vineyard, located in the small commune of Maumusson-Laguian, has grown from 6 to 20 hectares under Dupuy’s guidance, with organically grown native varieties- including Tannat, Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng as well as Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate is known as the keeper of hidden gems, as Christine is one of two winemakers in Madiran to own Tannat vines that date back to the pre-phylloxera era at the end of the 19th century (1870's). Trust us; they are a big, gnarly deal. The vines benefit from the silty clay and limestone soils, along with south - southeast facing, gentle hillsides around the domaine. The vineyard is certified 'ecocert', with Christine working mostly by hand in the vineyard. Soils are ploughed in Spring and Autumn; vines are fertilised using compost in the Autumn, and grass is left to grow between every second vine. Grapes are hand-harvested at perfect ripeness, before being sorted and de-stemmed. Fermentation is conducted in a temperature controlled vat with gentle pumping over for the reds. Malolactic and ageing occurs in old barrel, with a focus on minimal sulphites and lightly filtered (unfined) bottling. The red Madiran is deep, with aromas of spices, leather, and dark chocolate. The palate brings ripe, soft fruits and liquorice, and an elegant framework with fine tannins. It’s safe to say Dupuy has nailed her aim to produce approachable, elegant Tannat. These wines, much like their maker, have a natural ability to charm and leave you with a smile.
