Jean-Marc and his mother run the show and farm 'their hill' together. The 9 hectares of vines and farm have been owned by the family since the early 1900s. Organic farming has been the norm here from 2007, certified biodynamic since 2010. camin larredya Jurancon, South-West France Organic and biodynamic certified Jurançon near the city of Pau is a special place for many reasons. It’s simply one of the most beautiful French vineyards, with steep slopes and scenic landscape, including the towering, often snow-covered, Pyrenees in the background. Jurançon is a pocket-size appellation of about 1,000 hectares farmed by 100 producers. Producing only white wine, it is historically known for late-harvest sweet wine or 'moelleux'. However dry white Jurançon wine was recognised with a separate AOC in 1975, known as 'Jurançon sec'. Dry Jurançon can be among the best whites you'll ever taste, particularly in the hands of a legend like Didier Dagueneau who helped to put Jurançon on the map. Today Jean-Marc Grussaute from Camin Larredya is one of the leading force and gaining plenty of fans among the sommelier community in France. Jean-Marc and his mother run the show and farm 'their hill' together. The 9 hectares of vines and farm have been owned by the family since the early 1900s, with most of the current vines were planted in 1970s by Jean-Marc’s father. Organic farming has been the norm here from 2007 onwards, certified in 2010 and turning to biodynmaic farming in 2016. The vineyard is classically local in varietal plantings: 65% Petit Manseng, 27% Gros Manseng, 8% Petit Courbu and Camaralet. The vineyard sits at 300m altitude, with soils of silica-clay and subsoils of puddingstone. Precision is life here, every action serves the "purpose of the terroir and its continuity", according to Jean-Marc, who respects the soil’s health and its life. It's essential for him that the roots go deep to express the terroirs in the final wine. Jean-Marc works the soils, grow cereals or pulses in between the rows, and uses natural compost when needed. The singularity and honesty of his wines come from permanent attention. "La Part Davant", or oriental part is a Jurançon Sec blend of Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng and some Petit Courbu. Skin contact at first, the must ferments with natural yeast, moving with the temperature of the cellar and vitality of the fermentation. Then fermentation and ageing on lees for at least 8 months in barrels and foudres. Ageing takes place in barrel and foudres, with batonage to snap the lees back in suspension. The wine is then left to rest and evolve in the cool cellars. Intense on the nose, with beautiful notes of white peach, yeasty and toasty character. On the palate, it's all about the lively texture and fleshy white fruits as well as orange and citrus notes, with an elegant driven acidity and long mineral finish. - Clos du Jaugueyron | Margaux | Mosaique Wines
Michel and Stephanie heading up the 8ha of vines known as Clos du Jaugueyron, happily ensconced in Arsac, at the south-west edge of the Margaux appellation. By Théron’s own admission, there’s not a lot going on in that part of the world - isolated and out of the way somewhat. And that’s exactly how he likes it, after all, for someone farming organically it’s an advantage to be further from neighbours who may not share the same farming approach as you. CLOS DU JAUGUEYRON Margaux Organic & Biodynamic certified Meeting a girl in Bordeaux, falling in love and deviating from the expected life course is a familiar story to Mosaique Wines, and to Michel Théron of Clos du Jaugueyron. Theron saw Bordeaux as a place of education, heading there from his family’s estate in Languedoc Roussillon (Minervois) to study winemaking in 1988. The plan was to get his degree and head back to Minervois armed with knowledge, and eventually take over the family business. However, the universe had different ideas, bringing Bordelaise Stephanie Destruhaut into Michel’s orbit, and of course, the rest is (modern wine) history. Making things vine-official, the pair produced their first wine in 1994 from a small parcel they bought in 1993. It was to be the first of many vintages to follow. Fast forward to today and you’ll find Michel and Stephanie heading up the 8ha of vines known as Clos du Jaugueyron, happily ensconced in Arsac, at the south-west edge of the Margaux appellation. By Théron’s own admission, there’s not a lot going on in that part of the world - isolated and out of the way somewhat. And that’s exactly how he likes it, after all, for someone farming organically it’s an advantage to be further from neighbours who may not share the same farming approach as you. Having said that, wine lovers will know the region to be dotted with Margaux’s classified growths, so it’s not all bad terroir to share! Michel and Stephanie are firm believers in organic/biodynamic viticulture, converting officially with the 2008 vintage and gaining Demeter certification. Natural farming and sustainability is a way of life for them in their day to day, carrying through from the vineyards to the winery and beyond. The vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are plowed, and do not see a synthetic product. Instead careful attention is paid to the vineyard ecosystem, striving for balance naturally and letting the clay/gravel/quartz terroir of Arsac, and the deep fine gravels and sandy soil of Macau impart their goodness on the vines. When vintage rolls around, grapes are hand harvested and transported to the winery where they are vinified in concrete tanks using natural yeast fermentation and a minimal amount of sulphur. The wine is then transferred to barriques or foudre for 12 months and no filtration upon bottling. It all sounds so simple. And in many respects it is - grow the best grapes you can, don’t add too much or do too much. The magic, however, is in the soils and the care given to the ecosystem surrounding the vines. The team at Clos du Jaugueyron are proponents of the approach to outstanding results - Margaux reminiscence of simpler times, finessed and pure, with an unmistakably contemporary feel that’s approachable now. Personally, we’re inspired by this Bordeaux love story. The fact it reminds us so much of a special time only adds to the immense joy these wines bring to the table. - Distillerie Entropie | French Alps | Mosaique Wines
Adrien Berlioz took over the family vineyards in 2006, in Chignin at 390m above sea level. With plenty of hard work alongside the pursuit of purity and a certified biodynamic approach to farming, he has grown the vineyard to 5 hectares, transforming it into one of the Savoie’s most prestigious domaines. DISTILLERIE ENTROPIE French Alps Organic certified Shop wines Nestled in the Vercors mountains, a diverse and resilient flora thrives—edelweiss, mountain thyme, wild mallow, juniper, elderflower, and alpine mint among them. These plants form the backbone of Distillerie L’Entropie, founded in 2021 by lifelong friends Léa and David. After years in industry, they traded corporate careers for a life closer to their values: respect for nature, protection of biodiversity, and the joy of creating and sharing. And, it must be said, a love of skiing, hiking and all that mountain life has to offer! Their micro-distillery in the Vercors reflects this ethos, producing organic spirits that capture the vibrancy of the mountains. All botanicals are either certified organic or wild-foraged locally, with spring water from the Alps completing the foundation. Distillation takes place in “Monique,” their custom 150L copper alambic, allowing small-batch precision. Every stage, from maceration and distillation to bottling and labeling, is done by hand. Sustainability underpins their philosophy—green energy, water stewardship, water-based glue for labels, and composting byproducts through bokashi. The result is a rare collection of terroir spirits, pure and nuanced, that channel both the wild Vercors landscape and the spirit of their founders. Each spirit is a true expression of the Vercors. Vodka de Fleurs captures the delicacy of alpine blossoms, lifted with notes of mallow and elderberry. Liqueur Alpine ‘Flore du Vercors’ draws on 13 mountain plants to create a vibrant, herbaceous balance reminiscent of Chartreuse, yet uniquely its own. Gin Jeunes Pousses & Vieilles Branches brings together nine botanicals in a refreshing, juniper-led profile, layered with floral lift and mountain freshness. Pure, nuanced, and unmistakably shaped by their alpine home, these spirits are as authentic as Léa and David’s journey—a celebration of nature, friendship, and the Vercors itself. - Chateau des Rontets | Pouilly Fuissé | Mosaique Wines
Chateau des Rontets was founded in the 1700s in Pouilly Fuissé, Burgundy. It’s safe to say the 7.5 hectares of vines were not thriving when Claire and Fabio took the reins of the estate in 1995. From day one, the pair set upon farming organically to repair the health and biodiversity of the vines, and in 2005 attained their Ecocert organic certification. Today thanks to their hard work and patience they produce some of the most vibrant and pure natural wines in the region. CHATEAU DES RONTETS Pouilly-Fuissé, Burgundy Organic Home is where the vines are, as it turned out, for Claire Gazeau. After pursuing a life outside of wine, working in architecture in Milan and meeting her now husband doing so, the vines of Gazeau’s family vineyard in Pouilly-Fuissés eventually called her home. Thirty years later, Chateau des Rontets is producing its best wines yet. The estate was founded in the 1700s, taken over by Claire’s great-great-grandfather, François Varambon in the mid 1800s. The estate holds many treasured family memories, and upon moving there in 1995 Claire and her husband Fabio saw it as a wonderful place to raise a family of their own. It’s safe to say the 7.5 hectares of vines were not thriving when Claire and Fabio took the reins of the estate. From day one, the pair set upon farming organically to repair the health and biodiversity of the vines, and in 2005 attained their Ecocert organic certification. Organic farming, according to Claire and Fabio, is the best way for their vines to express the vocation of their place. Ploughing and the avoidance of chemical weeding allows the root system to absorb the mineral elements of the soil, exploring the unique layers of limestone and granite that come with straddling the Burgundy/Beaujolais divide. Above all, abolishing all synthetic chemical products allows Chateau des Rontets to respect the environment and the natural expressions of the living ecosystem, but also to preserve the health of their family, workers, neighbours and that of those who drink their wines. The main estate is situated on the top of the hill which closes the valley of Fuissé towards the south. Sitting at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level, the daily temperature range here is key to gradual ripening and the preservation of good acidity even in the warmest and earliest vintages. This is where the grapes producing the Pouilly-Fuissé cuvées Clos Varambon and Les Birbettes are grown. The bedrock is composed of hard limestone from the Jurassic period, with layers of silt and silty clay, and a high presence of stones and silica. These characteristics guarantee very good drainage and the development of the roots, which can burrow down between the stones, following their cracks. There are 5.5 hectares of vines within the Clos, planted on a light slope increasing gradually as it approaches the woods separating them from the village of Fuissé. Just 500m south of the Clos sits the revered Pierrefolle (or crazy stone) vineyard, producing the Pouilly-Fuissé cuvée of the same name. Although situated so closely, and at the same altitude, wines from Pierrefolle are completely different from their brethren. Being further south, the bedrock here is granitic, the soil is much deeper and composed only of quite thick silts. Its eastern exposure provides shelter from the north wind and tends to be slightly warmer, leading to a more rapid ripening process and less acid in the grapes. When it comes to vintage, all grapes are hand harvested, then, in the winery, Claire and Fabio continue to let their wines take a relatively uninterrupted course. Alcoholic fermentations are made only with natural yeasts, without any addition of sugar or acid and without enzymes, and the malolactic fermentations are never inhibited or artificially stopped. This practice can lead to long fermentations, often lasting several months, increasing the aromatic complexity of the wines and amplifying their expression of place. One part of the winemaking journey that is especially important at Chateau des Rontets is the extended lees ageing. Lees have a fundamental role in the specificity and texture of these wines, as the team chooses to let the wines sit on lees, without stirring, to take maximum advantage of the autolysis while limiting the tendency of reduction and ensuring the extraction of glycerol. Lastly, there is no fining or filtering of the wines. Instead, to help the wines settle before bottling, ageing in barrels takes place across two winters - a rare, yet effective approach. However, there’s more to discover in this region. Domaine Landron Chartier is a wonderful example of a small producer continuing to work with lesser known grapes which equally represent the terroir of the Loire. Third-generation winemaker Bernard Landron initially began his career alongside with his brother Jo in the heart of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine area. In 2002 Bernard moved to Ancenis in the village of St Géréon, about 35 min drive from Nantes, and was joined by his eldest son Benoît in 2008. Benoît had returned to the family vineyard after completing his degree in viticulture and oenology, facilitating a conversation to organic practices in 2009. The family now farm around 25 hectares, with a patchwork of vineyards mostly situated around the towns of Ligne and Udon planted with a mix of Melon de Bourgogne, Folle Blanche, Pinot Gris, Gamay and Cabernet Franc. The decomposed volcanic material in the soils, along with a moderate climate and ocean winds to reduce humidity, results in a hallmark freshness to the wines. To ensure both the terroir and fruit purity are front and centre, extreme care during the winemaking process is followed – from the vineyard through to the cellar. Vines nurtured with organic farming practices are hand harvested and vinified separately based on terroir with a natural yeast fermentation. There’s minimal intervention in the cellar, with light to no filtration and low to no sulphur added depending the cuvees. - Chateau Gombaude Guillot | Mosaique Wines
Spread across 6.9 hectares, the vines of Chateau Gombaude Guillot are planted to 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% old vine Malbec, which is more than 80 years of age. The wines are known for their elegance, finesse, and balance. chateau Gombaude-Guillot Pomerol, Bordeaux Organic certified JANE ANSON: "There is a brilliant, brilliant estate that I love called Gombaude Guillot. They are a very small producer, organic, biodynamic - great to look out for and very good value." True to the foundational spirit of Bordeaux, the estate dating back from 1860 was secured via marriage. The Bélevier family were well established as vignerons in Pomerol and Néac when this property was passed down to Marie Bélevier as a dowry in 1868. Later, in 1922, the actual chateau would be added to the property, retiring itself as the local post-church cafe for a grander life. Fast-forward to 2010, and you’ll find 6th generation Olivier Techer at the helm of this certified organic estate. Perhaps it was this extensive knowledge of healthy soil that also fostered a passion for sustainability that has extended to a pursuit of biodynamic certification Chateau Gombaude-Guillot are recognised as one of the first in area to spearhead an organic approach in the vineyard, with the Château Gombaude-Guillot 2000 vintage the first organic certified Pomerol wine, along with their 1.15 ha Clos Plince. The desire to lessen the environmental impact of the chateau extends beyond the vineyard, sourcing local oak for use in the winery. Planted across 7 hectares, the vines of Chateau Gombaude-Guillot are located in the unique plateau of Pomerol; with 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% old vine Malbec, which is more than 80 years of age. Surrounded by decent neighbours (Chateau La Fleur-Petrus, Chateau Lafleur, Chateau Clinet and Chateau Trotanoy) the vineyards are comprised of glacial gravel deposits and clay, and vineyard work is focused around soil health, low yields, and maximising ripeness. To encourage microbiological activity between vineyard rows, Olivier has planted a range of cover crops, and avoids using chemical or synthetic herbicides or fungicides. The importance of the vineyard’s ecosystem is the priority here. When the time comes to harvest, grapes are hand-picked, then sorted, de-stemmed and lightly crushed. The wine then undergoes natural fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel tanks for 3-4 weeks, with regular pumpovers occuring at the beginning of fermentation (2-4 times a day). Once ferments are complete, depending on the cuvee the wines are aged in a mix of stainless steel tanks, old oak barrels or amphora before bottling (unfiltered). The resulting wines of Château Gombaude-Guillot are known for their elegance, finesse, and balance. After selling to larger Cognac brands for years, the family bravely chose to create their own house style, one that focused on putting nature and mankind back at the heart of the Cognac making process. The result has been a resounding success, selling to scores of Michelin star restaurants and even the prestigious Elysée Palace. BOURGOIN COGNAC Cognac Organic conversion Cognac Bourgoin is a family estate located in the village of Saint Saturnin, in Charente. It has existed since 1933, when Leon Marcel Bourgoin traveled to the area for vintage and fell in love with his boss’s daughter. He then decided to put down roots in the area, literally, planting vines of Ugni Blanc that had arrived in France via Italy (there called Trebbiano) after phylloxera had decimated much of the local rootstock. Fast forward a few generations to the present and you’ll find Frederic, Leon Marcel’s grandson, humbly and proudly continuing the family’s Cognac production. This generation, however, has decided to shake things up. After selling to larger Cognac brands for years, the family bravely chose to create their own house style, one that focused on putting nature and mankind back at the heart of the Cognac making process. The result has been a resounding success, selling to scores of Michelin star restaurants and even the prestigious Elysée Palace. The Bourgoin Cognac journey is one which starts and finishes on the clay, limestone and alluvial soils of the estate. The grapes are grown organically, harvested, vinified with indigenous yeasts, distilled and bottled entirely by hand, all on site, allowing the family to closely monitor the tiny 20,000 bottles they make per year. Production is done entirely without the use of sulphur, colouring or added sugar at any stage. Furthermore, these Cognacs are produced without blending or filtration. In 1990, Philippe and Cécile Benezet took the reins, realising their dream of crafting their own wines, rather than sending the estate fruit to the co-op. Domaine Turenne Côtes de Provence Organic certified REVUE DES VINS DE FRANCE: Domaine Turenne ‘Camille’ rosé “60 best rosés of France” RVF (N° 601) When you’ve watched and celebrated your own family produce a much-loved Rosé, one that was the first wine you imported, it’s hard to consider opening the door to another. And yet, after a long seven year search, we’re delighted to welcome another winemaking family with the same exacting standards - Domaine Turenne. A gem in the heart of Provence, Domaine Turenne is located northeast of Bandol in the heart of the Triangle d’Or in the Côtes de Provence, between Cuers and Pierrefeu (Var). This family-owned estate has been a fixture in the region for over a century, named in homage to the familial connection to the Chocolaterie de Sedan which produces Turenne Chocolate. In 1990, Philippe and Cécile Benezet took the reins, realising their dream of crafting their own wines, rather than sending the estate fruit to the co-op. Their dedication paid off in 1994 when the estate's cellars were established, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. The now 20 hectares of vineyards at Domaine de Turenne are planted to classic regional varieties including Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Rolle, and Petite Clairette, with an average age of 40 years, with some vines dating back over a century. They are a testament to the marriage of tradition and innovation, and proudly bear organic certification (Ecocert), with a growing commitment to biodynamic practices. The secret to Turenne's exceptional wines lies in the unique terroir of the vineyards. The alluvial cone's stony clay-limestone soils, and well-drained sandy subsoil with small stones known as "Gavroches" bring a distinct minerality and impeccable drainage to the vines. The result is wines that carry the unmistakable signature of their origin. Cécile and Philippe Benezet approach their work with thoughtful care in the vineyard and cellar, aiming to produce wines that are sincere, respectful of their terroir, and as natural as possible. For them, winemaking is an alchemy of choices, craftsmanship, and principles, creating healthy and balanced wines that capture the essence of their land. When vintage rolls around, winemaking is a harmonious blend of traditional practices and modern techniques. Grapes are hand-harvested in the morning to preserve their freshness and to exercise better control over the initial stages of vinification. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, with techniques adapted to the requirements of each vintage. This approach results in well-balanced wines, free from excessive acidity or sugar levels. Domaine de Turenne is more than a winery; it's a philosophy that seeks to balance tradition and innovation while respecting the essence of Provence - honouring Rosé with a more vinous style, and celebrating the often forgotten white and red wines of the region alongside it. The wines are an invitation to share in the dedication and passion of the Benezet family, and every bottle reflects the hours spent in the vineyard and cellar. They are wines that are honest and elegant, without pretension or artifice. They are wines for sharing, wines for celebrating and to be celebrated. http://domaineturenne.com/ Shop Wines Quick View 2022 Domaine Turenne Cotes de Provence 'Antoine' white Price $47.00 GST Included Quick View 2024 Domaine Turenne Cotes de Provence 'Camille' rosé Price $49.00 GST Included Quick View 2021 Domaine Turenne Vin de France 'Histoire d'Haut' light red Price $42.00 GST Included Quick View 2022 Domaine Turenne Cotes de Provence 'Bastien' red Price $47.00 GST Included

Marie and Sylvie Courselle are two sisters most certainly doing it for themselves, not afraid to break from tradition in order to create truly tasty wines. A short 25 km from Bordeaux, the Courselle vineyard is located the historic family property on the clay and limestone hills of Entre-dux-Mers. CHATEAU THIEULEY M. & s. Courselle Vin de France, Bordeaux Sustainable certified Marie and Sylvie Courselle are two sisters most certainly doing it for themselves, not afraid to break from tradition in order to create truly tasty wines. A short 25 km from Bordeaux, the Courselle vineyard is located at Chateau Thieuley, the historic family property on the clay and limestone hills of Entre-dux-Mers. From growing up in the region, and studying their craft, to travelling widely abroad, the Courselle sisters came to have a deep understanding of the complexities of the family vineyard, and also its potential. They wanted to make wines to reflect their values, while show their great pride in their family history at Chateau Thieuley and pay tribute to the knowledge they learned from their parents. Although many people in Bordeaux though they were rebels, the young Courselle sisters convinced their father to plant Syrah vines to blend with the traditional Cabernet Franc, Merlot. And while they were at it, Chardonnay to blend with the local Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. A risk that has paid off handsomely. Marie and Sylvie have also worked hard to obtain their sustainable certification from Terra Vitis, working to ensure vineyard health and vitality that shines through in the end result. These two wines "Les copains" (the boy mates) and "Les copines" (the girl mates) reflect who they are - these are happy and festive wines to be shared! As the Courselle sisters always say "don’t forget, empty glasses remain full of memories!". We couldn't agree more. The white is crisp, fresh and balanced with a lovely juicy texture. White flowers aromas. Notes of ripe peach, mango and passion fruits. The red is light bodied, bright and filled with red fruits. Very friendly strawberries aromas with a spicy finish. It's a smashable red that can be served chilled on a hot day. Courselle sustainable high-density vineyard is averaging 5,500 vines per hectare which is almost double the region‘s average. Sustainable certified (Terra Vitis), grass grows between rows to create moderate water stress. Canopy management, leaf plucking, and green harvest are essential for better sun exposure of the grapes. Grapes are machine harvested in the morning. Whites are vinified with cold maceration on the skin, pneumatic pressing under inert gas, cool temperature fermentation and then ageing on lees in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Reds go through cold pre-ferment maceration, cool fermentation, then short ageing in stainless steel tanks. Quiet a modern winemaking style, but gosh how good is the result?! These two wines bring some fresh thinking to the region, and they are probably showing one of the best the value for quality in Bordeaux. “Le Petit Courselle red: Winemaking sisters from Bordeaux breaking all the rules. In the heart of Saint-Julien, amid gravel-rich soils and centuries of tradition, 1855 2nd Grand Cru Classé Château Léoville Poyferré stands as a quiet force in Bordeaux sitting on what Bettane & Desseauve rightly call “the heart of the Médoc’s best land.” Its legacy is woven through time—first as part of one of the largest estates in the region, Léoville was divided in the 19th century into three names now etched into Bordeaux lore: Léoville-Las Cases, Léoville-Barton, and Léoville Poyferré. CHATEAU LÉOVILLE POYFERRÉ Saint-Julien 2nd Grand Cru Classé 1855, Bordeaux Sustainable In the heart of Saint-Julien, amid gravel-rich soils and centuries of tradition, Château Léoville Poyferré stands as a quiet force in Bordeaux. Its legacy is woven through time—first as part of one of the largest wine estates in the region, and later as a distinguished Second Growth in the 1855 classification. Even in the 18th century, its wines were turning heads: during his tour of Bordeaux, Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States and an avid oenophile, noted the estate in his travel journals, recording it as “Lionville.” A fleeting mention, perhaps—but one that hints at the enduring allure of this exceptional terroir. Once a single estate, Léoville was divided in the 19th century into three names now etched into Bordeaux lore: Léoville-Las Cases, Léoville-Barton, and Léoville Poyferré. Though the vineyards were separated, the buildings remained entwined—so much so that the parking lot is still shared between Las Cases and Poyferré. During a visit to the estate, Olivier Cuvelier shared a quiet anecdote: when Cuvelier of Poyferré and Delon of Las Cases needed to speak, they would step out of their respective châteaux and meet, quite literally, in the middle of the car park. It’s a scene that captures the estate’s singular character—rooted in tradition, rich in neighbourly nuance, and unlike anything else in Bordeaux. Léoville Poyferré enjoys a position among Bordeaux’s most privileged terroirs. Its vines—some facing Léoville Las Cases, others brushing shoulders with Latour and Pichon-Longueville—lie in what Bettane & Desseauve rightly call “the heart of the Médoc’s best land.” Since acquiring the property in 1920, the Cuvelier family has stewarded the estate with both reverence and reinvention. Under Didier Cuvelier’s leadership in the late 20th century, a modernisation of vineyard and cellar took place—from replanting to cutting-edge vinification—resulting in a dramatic rise in quality. Today, the estate is guided by his cousin, Sara Lecompte Cuvelier, who upholds the family’s values while deepening their commitment to sustainable farming and climate-conscious viticulture. Spanning 80 hectares of prime Saint-Julien terroir, the vineyards are a mosaic of gravel terraces, sandy-clay subsoils, and cooler clay-rich plots that allow each grape variety to shine. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and length, Merlot lends plushness and warmth, while smaller parcels of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc contribute complexity and lift. It’s the highest Merlot proportion of any of the Léovilles—one of many quiet distinctions that sets Poyferré apart. Precision defines every step of the winemaking process: hand harvesting, double sorting (including optical selection), parcel-by-parcel vinification, and long ageing in carefully selected French oak. Malolactic fermentation in barrel adds seamless texture and polish, while the final blend, crafted by winemaker Isabelle Davin and cellar master Didier Thomann, reflects both site and signature. The result is unmistakable: Léoville Poyferré marries Saint-Julien’s classical frame with sensuous fruit, spice, and depth. A wine of power and poise, it rewards patience but speaks clearly from the glass even in youth. We’re honoured to represent Léoville Poyferré’s second wine, Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré, in Australia—a name with centuries of story, and a future still unfolding. - Domaine Laguerre | Roussillon | Mosaique Wines
Domaine Laguerre, is one of the finest domains in the Roussillon, with high-altitude mountain vineyards producing vibrant wines of terroir. The Domaine is run by the enthusiastic and energetic Éric Laguerre DOMAINE LAGUERRE Roussillon Organic certified and Biodynamic, in-conversion Domaine Laguerre, is one of the finest domains in the Roussillon, with high-altitude mountain vineyards producing vibrant wines of terroir. The Domaine is run by the enthusiastic and energetic Éric Laguerre, who took over his family's 40 hectares of vineyards in 1999. Resolving to go back to basics and grow / make wine as naturally as possible from the start, Eric and his wife Corinne restored and replanted most of the vine-land and bottled their first vintage in 2001. The result is organically-farmed and naturally-made artisanal Roussillon wines, offering superb wines and incredible value. A visit to Eric in the tiny village of Saint Martin de Fenouillet (not far from Maury) requires steep climbs through a mountain pass up to the highest, cooler climate vineyards in the Roussillon (500 meters elevation). Here you’ll find plantings of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cabernet for red and, Grenache Blanc, Rolle, Roussanne, Marssanne Macabeu for whites, with an average vine age of 40 years old. The vines sit on acidic terroir made of gneiss and broken-down granite with some pockets of quartz and decomposed granite. These soils combined with the cool climate, the “tramontane” winds, low yields and Éric's superb farming, create distinctive bright, balanced wine with freshness, fruit definition, excellent mineral tension that deepens with time in bottle. In the vineyards, organic and biodynamic practices are observed, with certification awarded for the former and soon for the latter. Harvest in this area is typically late for the region, starting at the end of September and lasting until mid-October. The grapes are hand-harvested in the early morning to ensure freshness, with sorting done in the vines. The grapes are then taken to the cellar and fermented with natural yeast, and vinified separately in vessels such as fibre tanks, concrete tanks and old oak demi-muid. Wines from Roussillon are often undiscovered gems. The whites combine purity along with weight and ripe fruit flavours. The reds on the other hand are often high in alcohol (over 14% natural) but not heavy. “Le Ciste Blanc” This white blend is one of the most interesting whites of southern France, comprising Grenache Blanc, Rolle (Vermentino), Marsanne, Roussanne, and Macabeu. "Eos Blanc" This wine is a rewarding discovery for anyone seeking an intriguing wine of terroir at an affordable price. 65% Grenache Blanc, 35% Macabeu. The increased percentages of Macabeu have made this lovely wine even more distinctive. "Eos Rouge" An elegant and brighter red, blend of 80% Grenache from 40-year-old gobelet-trained vines, with some Carignan and Syrah. “Domaine Laguerre, in the Roussillon. An absolute gem. Superb every day wine, you can age 10+ years, for a ridiculous price. Superb farming in the altitude vineyards above Perpignan, old vines gardened with love, grapes handled with dedicated care. How can this vigneron not be more revered for offering such treats at such value. White and red. Entry level cuvée or « grande cuvée ». It makes me so happy and excited to be able to open his wines at Racines NY. A treat.” Pascaline Lepeltier MS www. domainelaguerre.com White grapes: Grenache Blanc, Rolle, Marsanne, Roussanne, Macabeu Red grapes: Grenache Noir, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon Shop wines Quick View 2022 Domaine Laguerre, Vin de France 'LAG' red Out of stock Quick View 2023 Domaine Laguerre, AOC Cotes du Roussillon 'EOS Rosé' Price $44.00 GST Included Quick View NV Domaine Laguerre, Vin de France 'Oxy' Rancio sec (Sherry style) Price $86.00 GST Included Quick View 2022 Domaine Laguerre, AOC Cotes du Roussillon 'Le Ciste Rouge' Price $63.00 GST Included
- Clos Marie | Languedoc, Pic Saint Loup | Mosaique Wines
Clos Marie was established in 1995, when Christophe Peyrus and Françoise Julien took over the family vineyards in the Pic Saint Loup appellation of the Languedoc, naming the domaine in honour of Francoise's grandmother to whom the vineyards had belonged. Many of Clos Marie’s wines are considered to be reference points for Languedoc - a point we won’t argue having tasted these wines alongside many other. CLOS MARIE Pic Saint Loup, Languedoc Organic certified and Biodynamic Those in wine circles have known the potential of the Languedoc region for decades. With a large area under vine, it’s one of the most prolific wine producing regions in France, however it remains one of the most misunderstood (in our humble opinion). The region is an agricultural playground, with ancient soils, mature vines and a terroir that is more suited to natural farming than many of its surroundings. Languedoc has often attracted innovative winemakers given its diversity, and flying largely under the radar has allowed producers to push boundaries, experiment and ultimately create some of the most exciting wines in the world - including those of Clos Marie. Clos Marie was established in 1995, when Christophe Peyrus and Françoise Julien took over the family vineyards in the Pic Saint-Loup appellation of the Languedoc, naming the domaine in honour of Francoise's grandmother to whom the vineyards had belonged. Until this point, the vineyard was a reliable source of fruit for the local cooperative, however Christophe and Françoise felt there was a greater potential for these vines. Their intuition was confirmed after consultation with a slew of France’s greatest vignerons and domaines (Didier Dagueneau, Clos Rougeard, and Grange des Pères), and before long they set out on bottling wines under the Clos Marie label. The hardworking pair focused on caring for the vineyard above all else, quickly realising the benefits of organic and biodynamic practices, they began solely farming this way in 1997, achieving organic certification in 2010. Today, the domaine’s vineyard holdings sit at 23 hectares (20ha reds, 3ha whites), and are sprinkled in and around the village of Lauret, located to the north of Montpellier. The vines sit on terraces nestled on the backside of the Montagne de l’Hortus, the peak that faces the pointed Pic Saint-Loup. This sub appellation under the Coteaux du Languedoc AOC is known for some of the most finessed wines of the region, in large part due to the cooling breezes that blow south from the Cévennes Mountains. Working the vineyard to produce the best possible wines remains the focal point for Christophe and Françoise. The soils of the vineyards are continuously ploughed, forcing the vines’ roots to seek nourishment deep down in the chalky limestone bedrock. Yields are kept low, between 15 to 35 hl/ha, with 75% of the vineyards replanted from séléction massale cuttings (sourced from their 70- to 100-year-old vines) to achieve a higher vine density. Many growers believe this causes enough competition among the roots to invigorate the vine. Perhaps the most intriguing and exciting element to Languedoc wines, and Clos Marie in particular is the diversity of varietals producers have at their fingertips. For Clos Marie, this includes Cinsault (10%), Syrah (50%), Grenache noir (15%), Carignan (15%), Mourvèdre (10%) for the reds, and Carignan gris (15%), Grenache blanc (20%), Clairette (10%), Roussanne (15%), Vermentino (10%), Grenache gris (20%), Muscat à petits grains blancs (5%) for the white wines. In the cellar, Christophe continues his fastidious approach to winemaking, firmly believing the devil is in the detail. As the hand-picked grapes arrive in the cellar, they then ferment naturally in cement tanks and undergo long cuvaisons at cool temperatures, stabilising the wines sufficiently so that fining and filtration are not necessary. Vinification varies with each cuvee, with some of the wines, such as the signature ‘Les Glorieuses’ aged in barrel for up to three winters, mostly in neutral barrels and newer Stockinger foudres. Christophe is also in the minimal intervention camp and uses low sulfur while ensuring quality and purity in the end result. Many of Clos Marie’s wines are considered to be reference points for Languedoc - a point we won’t argue having tasted these wines alongside many other, better known producers. Christophe and Françoise do not chase the limelight, or endeavour to be the best known producers in the region. Instead, their focus is on their vineyards, the grapes and producing wines of incredible purity to showcase just how good Languedoc can be.
