2021 Domaine Garon, AOC Cotes-du-Rhone 'La Part des Vivants'

Appellation: AOC Cotes-du-Rhone (Northern Rhone region)


Grapes: Syrah (80%), Grenache, Mourvedre


Farming: Organic (not certified)


Aromatics: Earthy, red berries and cherries, blueberries, dark chocolate and pepper, as well as oak spices.


Palate: A medium bodied red, with beautiful fleshy texture filled with pure ripe black berries. Balanced, with good acidity, spice again on the palate and a saline fresh finish. Darker and spicier than most Cotes du Rhone from the Southern Rhone, this wine is unique.


About the wine: ‘La Part des Vivants’: means the wine left for us to drink after the angel’s share evaporate. This rare Northern Rhone Cotes du Rhone is made mostly of Syrah, coming from Ampuis area not far from the Cote-Rotie vineyards. The Grenache and the Mourvedre comes from declassified Cru Cairanne and Rasteu. This cuvee is mostly de-stemmed, with traditional vinification and no sulphur during the vinification and ageing. Aged in very old barrels of 228 litres. Low sulphur at bottling.


When to drink: Drink now or in the next 4-5 years.


Service: 13 to 15 degrees C. Cabernet glass. Decant for 30 min when young.


Food match: Steak frites, pizza, lasagna, pasta with meatballs.
