Appellation: Gevrey-Chambertin (Burgundy region)
Colour/Style: Red
Soil: Limestone and marl with brown calcic or limey soils. The vines also benefit of marls covered with screes and red silt washed down from the plateau.
Grapes: Pinot Noir (100%)
Farming: Organic and Biodynamic certified
Aromatics: Generous nose with black cherry, red plum, liquorice, violet, peppery spice and an earthy character.
Palate: Older vines bring richness and depth for this village wine from the 'Clos Prieur'. Nice structure, the wine display notes of black berries and black plums with a savoury and earthy Gevrey personality. We love its length and generosity.
About the wine: ‘Clos Prieur’ was once the property of the Abbey of Cluny. The vines for this cuvee are 55 years old in average. The upper part (‘haute’) of this plot is rated premier cru; the downslope portion (‘bas’) is one of the more highly prized villages plots in Gevrey. Hand harvested the grapes are sorted and then vinified destemmed with natural yeast in temperature-controlled tanks. Aged in older French oak barrels and terracotta or clay amphora ranging from 320L to 750L. The average percentage of wines ageing in amphora for the domaine is about 40% which is very unique in Burgundy and add purity of fruit and terroir transparency. Bottled unified and unfiltered or light filtration.
When to drink: Ready to drink now or in the next 8-10 years after vintage.
Service: 14 degrees, Pinot Noir glass.
Food match: Grilled red meat or game; wild mushroom-based dishes.
