2018 Marius Bielle Lalande-de-Pomerol red

Appellation: AOC Lalande-de-Pomerol (Bordeaux region)

Terroir: Sand and gravels soils.

Grapes: Merlot (100%)

Farming: Organic

Aromatics: Spicy, peppery and earthy, with sour cherries and plums. This wine is showing a lovely freshness and vibrancy. It's also refreshing to experience a pure and more lower intervention wine from this area.

Palate: Medium bodied wine with savoury mid palate, more cherries and plums with spicy and peppery texture that match the nose. The tannins are present yet well integrated in the spirit of the wine. I like the mineral driven and salty finish making this wine a wine for the table, a wine to enjoy with a nice piece of grilled meat, entrecote frites or a duck leg!

About the wine: Damien Bielle is ex Cheval Blanc and Petrus so he learnt a thing or two about Merlot and the terroir of the area, it's great to see his interpretation of this grape with a vintage I particularly like at the moment. Natural fermentation, the wine is aged in concrete tanks (no oak) with lofi winemaking yet the wines is elegant and precise. This wine is unfined, unfiltred. Low sulphur.

When to drink: Decant for 1 hour and drink now or 6-8 years after vintage.

Service: 15 to 16 degrees C in Bordeaux glass.

Food match: Charcuterie, grilled beef, duck magret or a burger.
