Appellation: Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire (Loire region)
Grapes: Melon de Bourgogne (100%)
Farming: Organic (certified)
Terroir: Microgranite (Single vineyard, St Gereon area)
Aromatics: Complex and elegant on the nose, with notes of white flower, citrus, pear, fresh minerals and a yeasty smoky character.
Palate: Textural and powerful on the palate thanks to the time on lees. We love the drive and the energy in this wine, it reminds us of the intensity of a good 1er Cru Chablis sometimes. Muscadet is capable of making very beautiful, long, fine wine. It's also fascinating to see how well it evolves with time in bottle. Fleshy texture with notes of pear, citrus and a salty vibrant finish. This Cru Muscadet express beautifully on the Bois Mouchet site, one of the best Cru Muscadet we tried from this side of the Loire.
About the wine: Cru Le Bois Mouchet is located in St Gerons, microgranite based terroir. Hand harvested. Natural yeast fermentation. Minimal intervention in the cellar, malolactic fermentation, ageing on lees for 24 months (12 months barrel, 12 months glass-lined concrete tanks), light filtration and low sulphur added.
When to drink: Drink now or in the next 8-10 years.
Service: 10 to 12 degrees C.
Food match: Oysters, mussels, shrimp, salmon in sauce or roasted chicken.
