Appellation: Alsace
Terroir: This terroir is been cultivated for more than 10 centuries. Already in the middle age this Grand Cru was famous across Europe. Kitterlé is a steep vineyard from the commune of Guebwiller made of sandstone subtract covered with volcanic sediments. Its sandy soil, poor in clay give limited yields and the wines are mineral and smoky.
Grapes: Riesling (100%)
Farming: Organic & Biodymamic (certified)
Aromatics: Notes of coins, menthe, fresh fruits and a beautiful mineral and smoky character.
Palate: Very pure and balanced wine with a beautiful texture filled with fresh fruits. Delicious and long saline finish. Magnificent wine!
About the wine: Work of the soil by ploughing to encourage deep roots for a better terroir expression. The vines that make this wine are in average 20 years old. Hand-picked, whole bunch pressing “a l’Alsacienne” with a pneumatic press, fermentation with natural yeast in 100 years old oak foudres. Ageing on lees for 11 months.
When to drink: Drink now or in the next 6-8 years after vintage.
Service: 8 to 10 C degrees in Riesling glass.
Food match: Sea food platter, fish in sauce, goat or sheep cheese
