Palate: An elegant and powerful Margaux, filled with blackberries and plums. This cuvee can rival some of the best Margaux producers with a unique vibrancy and energy. We love the purity in its wine and the sense of place.
About the wine: This cuvee is produced from 3.75 hectares, with 8,000 vines per hectare, most of the vines are 30 years old and some 10 years old. Yields are low. Grapes are hand harvested in small crates, including sorting in the vineyard. Some whole bunch to balance with the warm 2019 vintage. No foulage or no added yeast. Fermentation in concrete tanks. Aging in a reductive environment for 12 months in barrels and foudre of 12 hl, then 8 months in concrete tanks before bottling. Light filtration if needed, low sulfur.
When to drink: Drink now or before 2040.
Service: Decant for 1 hour, 15 to 16 degrees C in Bordeaux glass.
Food match: Grilled lamb or grilled tuna, beef stew or duck.
